Here are some of the latest trends in home building when you decide to build your new magnificent home. Although white will always be a classic color for kitchen design, homeowners are shying away from bland hues and injecting rich colors, such as warm wood tones (example: mahogany) and neutrals (example: grays and blues), into the space to give it a warm, fresh and unique feel.

Social sites such as Instagram, Pinterest and Houzz have exposed homeowners to what’s possible, what looks fun and what they can personalize themselves. Richer colors are slowly starting to take shape as new home builders are losing interest in light grey.

In the kitchen the stainless steel sink in on the way out where new home builders are more interested in pounded copper and the older farm style porcelain sinks. This is a great trend that we hope stays around for a long time because these types of sinks are interesting and colorful as well as useful. Yes, they’re more expensive but worth it.

Wallpaper is coming back although the mere mention of the word usually sends shivers down the spine of new home builders but, today’s wallpaper is different than the floral patterns your parent used when you were growing up. Wallpaper today is like an art form and fantastic patterns used on one wall is striking and compliments the room in an amazing way.

Vintage lighting is also a very popular trend as new home builders want to mix the old with the new and adding vintage pieces in the kitchen and bathroom is incredibly popular.

Concrete accents are on the rise and although concrete can come off as cold, the use of subtle dyes in the mix has been a striking replacement for marble and even granite.

Shiplap wood walls are a nice addition to new home builders and although the look is definitely a Cape Cod look that works well in every part of the country. It’s just a warm and cozy look and feel.
